The Taça da Liga (English: League Cup), officially known as the League Cup is competition organized by the Portuguese League for Professional Football started in the 2007-08 football season. It was proposed by Sporting Clube de Portugal and Boavista in 2006 and unanimously approved by all clubs from the Portuguese professional leagues in a meeting in Porto on 28 November 2006. All teams of the two levels of professional football, Portuguese Liga and Liga de Honra, participate in this competition. The current holder is SL Benfica, who defeated second-time finalist Sporting CP 3-2 on penalties.
